Fengjiao Yu - University of St. Andrews

I obtained my BSc in Chemistry at Fudan University, China in 2010. I completed my PhD in Chemistry at University of St Andrews in 2014 and continued here as a postdoc. I am currently working on metal nanoparticles and nanoalloys, as well as electron microscopy study of beam-sensitive materials. To be more specific I focus on the synthesis, characterization and formation mechanism of alloy and metal oxide nanoparticles, including 1D rod, 2D nanosheets and 3D networks, using HRTEM as the principal characterization method.Outside the lab I like cooking and attending the gym.

This image was taken from a butterfly wing scale under a scanning electron microscope. The powder sticking on our fingers when we hold a butterfly, is actually its wing scales. Under the microscope, these scales show very ordered, periodic structures, which is the reason for the colours on butterfly wings.

Our MacBook cases consist of two pieces (top and bottom) made from ultra-slim transparent plastic to best protect your laptop. Using state-of-the-art printing technology, the top cover is printed with stunning scientific imagery - except for the centre part, which features a cut-out matching the Apple logo.

Slight variations of the design might occur due to the different MacBook models having slightly different shapes and sizes.
